Meet blogger Amy Roiland AKA @afashionnerd, creator of Fashion Tap, the revolutionary app about to the change the blogging world.
Golden Paradise Necklace
At age 14, you began your obsession with fashion when you became a Jennifer Love Hewitt fan. Who were some of the other early style influencers for you?
Rachel Bilson and Nicole Richie for sure. I was obsessed with their style and I loved how Nicole would wear those big amazing sunnies around!
How did you come up with the name A Fashion Nerd for your blog?
The name just came to me at random, actually. I am a pretty nerdy weird chick and I am super obsessed with fashion so A Fashion Nerd was the perfect username for me. It really explains who I am in so many ways, not only am I nerdy but I am super nerdy for fashion.
Rumor has it that prior to A Fashion Nerd, you had 3 other blogs that you kept quitting and starting again. Can you tell us what those other blogs were?
Yes, my first blog was FortheSakeofFashion2 in 2009 and I had it for a while and then quit. My second one was in 2010 and it was called Amy A La Mode. This one I was trying to focus more on. I quit this and moved onto doing Mod Dolls with a friend of mine. Someone said a partner was what I needed to succeed. This was NOT true at all. All I needed was myself to succeed. After I split ways with my Mod Dolls partner, I started A Fashion Nerd and focused my attention 100% on my blog. I also did all of my own brand negations and my own photos with a tripod and clicker.

Frayed low waisted skirts, ewwwww. (We agree)

"FashionTap is a fashion social networking app that allows users to make money off the clothing and products they already know and love. FashionTap is also a database for the entire fashion industry to be found on, by location and category." - Amy Roiland (FashionTap CEO)
FashionTap makes it convenient for you to find all the products that catch your eye without the hassle of having to search Google and dig through multiple websites to find your desired product. Long gone are the days where you had to ask "Where did you get that?" because FashionTap already has the answer and will take you directly to the product, effortless and hassle free.
Below is a example of the difference between posting on Instagram vs. FashionTap
What sets FashionTap apart from other fashion apps?
Other fashion apps aren't solving any real issues at all. No one is helping anyone be found in this industry and no one is helping people drive sales or getting paid to drive sales the right way. Most people who make FASHION based apps want to just make money off of everyone and get ahead. I created FashionTap with my experience and the problems I was running into in the fashion industry. I want to make a difference in this world and help connect everyone on one social platform. I want to help everyone be found finally for work and find others and drive sales easily and organically. I love this industry with my full heart and I think this is what sets me a part from others.
These days, social media plays a huge role in influencing consumers. How do you feel that FashionTap will become a major player in the influencer game?
FashionTap connects influencers with brands, designers and retailers, which is exciting. Our app is a super organic way to market your brand without shoving it in someones face. You can casually go through your stream and see different people wearing the same jacket in so many different ways all linking you back to that exact jacket to buy. Influencers run this entire industry and without them your brand won't get too far. Just look at ColourPop, they became SUPER famous very quick by social media influencer marketing.
You talk about FashionTap becoming the IMDB of the fashion industry. Give us an example of what you mean by that.
We are a database for everyone to be found on by what they do and where they live. Now everyone can connect with everyone in the fashion community. I want everyone to be found easily and there are no databases for the fashion industry. This is the 1st reason why I created FashionTap, I noticed this huge void and issue. My boss wanted me to find her bloggers in Austin TX for SXSW to send them her designs to wear at the festival. I couldn't locate any, not anywhere. This was a huge issue and a red flag for me. Who do you think spreads the word best about your designs? Bloggers of course!
"I want girls to go to runway shows and tell other girls to add them on FashionTap instead of follow me on IG or add me on FB" - Amy Roiland (FashionTap CEO)
Who are some top bloggers on FashionTap that we might recognize?
Missalissa, AstylePixie AKA Erika, JagLever, etc.
"Love + Leather is on FashionTap and we love it! We can easily tag all of our necklaces and link them directly to the web page where the necklace can be found." - Renee Tobias (Love + Leather CEO)
What are some things you are doing to get the word out about FashionTap?
We haven't had any budget yet to do marketing, all the marketing you see is all organic and word of mouth. Everyone loves the app, the response has been insanely amazing. People are really spreading he word for us right now.
Being such a go-getter, I am sure you have used some unconventional methods to get your foot into doors during your FashionTap journey. Tell us the craziest thing you have done!
I am all about the back door way of doing ANYTHING. I actually want to write a book one day about this. One thing I did was get a modeling agent to represent me and send me on Fit modeling auditions to get the brands attention and talk about my blog and how I am a blogger. I actually started working with these brands as a blogger because everyone was impressed with my then 8k follower count.
How often would you suggest posting?
2-3 days at least, stay active and be consistent and persistent!
What are some things a user can do to grow their following on Fashion ap?
Go to my page @Amy and click on my newest followers and follow them all. Interact with everyone on the app and leave comments. One of our bloggers works with every single brand on our app, amazing. Network and interact on there. Go to our search page and follow all of our top users as well.
How does a user gets featured on FashionTap?
Write me or just be active and I will see you. I follow everyone, or at least try to follow everyone to see what they are doing on the app.
Can you share some success stories you have heard from other FashionTap users?
Erika just got noticed today in public because someone knows her from FashionTap! She also has booked work from the app as a blogger with LaModa101 and ANGL clothing and others. MissAlissa has worked with every brand on our app! Tay the model booked a print job through our app. I have an entire HUGE list of success stories, it's amazing.
You’ve said you have one user who has worked with every single brand and designer on your app. What do you think they did to have that success?
She has amazing content, she's incredible and she has an amazing look. She is VERY consistent and very persistent and knows how to get through to brands and market herself.
We couldn't be more excited for Amy and her success with her app FashionTap!
Make sure to catch Amy Roiland on Shark Tank premiering on Friday, April 29th at 9|8c on ABC!
